It feels a little silly to try starting a blog in the year 2026. There’s at least a dozen ways to keep people apprised of what we’re doing and thinking at any time of the day or night, and a blog on my own website is likely the least effective way to disseminate any updates about my goings-on. Nobody wants to go out of their way to see what I’m posting in this corner of the internet, I’m sure.
And yet, for some reason, here I am.
My main motivation for this is, I’ll admit, is to better catalogue my crafting ventures. I’ve been shifting a lot of my energy into working on projects I’ve had in my backlog for ages, and I want to be able to keep some kind of record of my experiences and learnings as I make progress there. In that sense, this might end up being a blog with a focus on creative ventures.
In other ways, though, I have other goals and side quests I’d like to undertake in the coming year and beyond. I want to get back into swimming and exercising consistently. I want to start doing yoga and meditating again. I want to start meal prepping and cooking food that’s good for my body and mind, and all that crunchy bullshit. So maybe I can use this blog as a place to keep a record of those ventures, too. Maybe having a corner of the internet for some longform posting that I can call my own will encourage me to create and stick to some healthier patterns and habits.
Or, maybe, I’m just deluding myself, and this will fall into obscurity as often happens with new “social” media efforts.
I guess only time will tell. For now, I’m going to leave this here, and see if my aspirations of blogging consistently bloom into something interesting. My first real post is going to be about a knitting project, so if you’re into that, stay tuned! And if you aren’t, you can always find my less specific posts on Bluesky.
